The Ride to Nighoj was a one day exploration ride, about 380 kms through the very deadly & famous Malshej ghat. I did this ride with two new rider mates aka Kos jambhekar & Niel Murali.
It was 29 oct 2017, Sunday, I Started from Badlapur at 6:30 AM. I met my other two partners at Titwala turn on NH61 (Nagar Highway). We got our breakfast done & then we three started from Titwala turn at 8 AM. Routing via Murbad & Kasgaon, we passed Malshej Ghat. It is one of the scenic & deadliest Ghat in Maharashtra. Enroute we took a few stops for capturing pictures.
It was 10:30 AM, we had successfully crossed malshej & routed couple of kms inner road to take a view of the Reservoir of Pimpalgaon Joga Dam. We halted there for around Half hour & captured pictures.We also found a emergency Coastal Boat where we spent a good leisure time.
We started further ride at 11 AM, Routed via Loni Dhamani, Otur, AalePhata, Belhe, Alkuti, Devibhoyare & finally reached Nighoj Potholes at 1 PM. The humidity was very high.
Nighoj is a small village in Ahmednagar district, It is famous for the naturally created potholes on the riverbed of the Kukadi River. There is also temple of Goddess Malganga at this spot. Experts from all over the world come here every year to study the phenomenon of their formation. Geologists indicate that formerly there was greater rainfall in this area and that the Kukadi River flowed out from the highlands with heavy force. Also the Basalt Content is high in the rocks of Kukadi river bed in this region, hence the heavy flow & the higher basalt content resulted scouring the Bedrock & formed these potholes.
We had our Lunch & now started our return journey via other route. The inner road conditions were tremendously Bad. We routed via Malthan, Nimgaon, Chakan, Pimpri Chinchwad. We catched NH48 (Mumbai-Pune Old Hwy). Taking some small tea breaks in between, we routed via Vadgaon, Kamshet, Lonavala, Khandala, Khopoli, Chowk Phata. I waved off to my partners & routed to Badlapur via Karjat, Neral & Reached home at 10 PM.
The short 380 Kms ride went very well, Its always been my keen interest to visit the less explored places. It is a worth visiting place & one looking for short adventures should surely go for such destination. Also got to know two new Riders, very thankful for my regular buddy Manoj Sinkar who suggested me this Ride.
