Lingana Trek - One of the toughest pinnacle (11 &12 November 2017)

Lingana : A massive pinnacle on the mainline of Sahyadris between Raigad & Torna. It is Located in Mahad region of Raigad District. It ranges to 2969 feets above sea level & is considered to be a dream trek for every enthusiastic trekker. The Name "Lingana" is itself taken from the shape of the Mountain, which resembles like a "Linga". Lingana happens to be amongst top 10 toughest pinnacles in Maharashtra. The fort was built in 1648 by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, & was basically used as a penal settlement. This dream trek was accomplished with Shrushti Foundation Group (Roha based group of young & oldies, running for adventures activities)

The trek was planned on 12 November 2017. We all members started from Mumbai, Navi-Mumbai & Roha towards the Base village on 11 Nov. I & Ajay rode our Bikes, while other members transported by cars. "Paane" is the base village for Lingana, So we reached Paane around 2 AM of 12 Nov. After parking our locomotives, reaching to the base village is itself a 15 mins trek with includes a river crossing at a dead cold temperature. We all members took a nap for a while prior to start the trek.
It was sharp 5 AM & we initiated the Trek. We have to cross 2 hills & then we get the majestic view of Lingana from a distance. Basically, to climb Lingana, there are two option; If u go to Base village Mohari, then you can climb Lingana by 'Boratyachi Naal' & If you go to Base village Paane, you can climb it from the backside. We have opted for Paane, as mentioned above. Crossing the hills & tableland, before the actual climb, we visited Jananaa Goddess Temple.
Then we started to climb the pinnacle. It is considered to be very tough. The climb goes through a dense jungle route on a steep surface. There were alot of dry grass patches which made it slippery & much more difficult to climb. While Climbing Lingana, side by side you are able to see Legendary Fort Raigad. After a lot of zig-zag climb & exhausting trek, we reached the fort top at 10 AM. Later we moved toward cave by a very narrow mountain sidewall. We relaxed for some while in the cave & then had our eatables. We were in all 23 member, both gents & ladies belonging to all age groups.

At 11:30 AM, we six members i.e. I, Ajay, Amit, Rahul, Mayur & Kiran decided to go for a traverse & then rock climbing till the narrow top. We did complete the traverse. We also get a view of Railing Plateau & Boratyachi Naal during traverse of Lingana. Unfortunately, due to lack of time, we did not complete the climb till top end, we quit from middle & came back to the caves where our rest of team members were resting.
We started our descend at 2:30 PM. The slippery descends made it highly difficult to proceed. Slagging down on our bums, we all members some how proceeded slowly by slowly.
We reached Base Village Paane by 9:30 PM, it took long 7 hours for the descends which were deadly exhausting. Our dinner was arranged by Mr. Baban Kadu, who was also our local trek in-charge. Post dinner, we proceeded towards our bikes & cars. It was around 10:30 PM, & we started tracing our routes back home. I took a stop at my Mahad Residence, while other members routed their homes at Roha & Mumbai.

It was definately a great experience to serve the Paradise of pinnacles: Lingana.

Few things to be strictly noted about Lingana:
1. To perform this trek under professional guidance & with local experties.
2. To carry proper technical climbing & Rope setup along with you.
3. This trek is surely not for beginners, make sure you are atleast a moderate level trekker.
